This aluminium adapter is used to secure your Equatorial mount to a pier. It has a central hole, so you can tighten the mount on, using your existing tripod bolt as usual.
Two versions are available (more planned, contact us):

Type 6
for SkyWatcher EQ6 & Celestron CGEM mounts, Orion USA Atlas mount.

Type 5 for SkyWatcher EQ5, HEQ5, Celestron CG5 mounts.
The Altair Astro pier adapter has six recessed holes around the outer perimeter for fastening it to the pier plate. 6x corrosion resistant stainless steel bolts and nuts are included, for quick and easy installation.
Using the Azimuth (rotation) stop for each type of mount:
You'll notice a "stop bolt" protruding from your EQ mount field tripod. This is to provide something for the mount rotation adjustment screws to push against - for fine adjustment and polar alignment. (Some older CGE and EQ-5 mounts also have a cast metal "nub" which protrudes from the tripod head). (Click the image for more info).
On the Type 6 EQ6 version, there is an additional hole for the EQ6 azimuth stop bolt which protrudes from the field tripod. If you do not intend on using your mount and tripod in the field very often, you can just unscrew the azimuth stop bolt on your tripod, and screw that into the pre-threaded hole on the adapter. If you use your mount and tripod in the field often, then you can use your own bolt for faster setup/takedown time, or you can ask us to send you one with your order in the dropdown field below.
On the Type 5 EQ5/HEQ5/CG5 version there are two additional holes to suit your mount. The manufacturers sometimes use different threads for the altitude stops on these mounts so we can't cover all eventualities, but our threads fit your tripod stop 95% of the time, and their positions on the adapter surface are correct. If your tripod stop has a unique thread, don't worry, you can use any bolt which fits the hole in the pier adapter.
If you use your tripod in the field often, just ask us for an additional bolt in the comments field when you place your order.
Do not be concerned about the Azimuth stop pressing against the side of bolt threads, as this will not affect performance or accuracy as you don't need much pressure to fine-adjust your mount's polar alignment. In fact, using your own bolt (or our bolt) is best, because it means you don't need to transfer the tripod bolt over again, for faster setup/takedown time.
