This CNC machined aluminium adapter is used to secure your Celestron CGEM, Skywatcher EQ6 or Orion Atlas Equatorial mount to a pier. It has a central hole, so you can tighten the mount down, using your existing tripod bolt as usual.

The Altair Astro pier adapter has six recessed holes around the outer perimeter for fastening it to the pier plate.

6x corrosion resistant stainless steel bolts and nuts are included with your pier adapter, for quick and easy installation. The pier adapter is clear anodised for durability and scratch resistance.

Using the Azimuth (rotation) stop for each type of mount:

You'll notice a "stop bolt" protruding from your EQ mount field tripod. This is to provide something for the mount rotation adjustment screws to push against for fine adjustment and polar alignment. (Some older CGE and EQ-5 mounts also have a cast metal "nub" which protrudes from the tripod head). (Click the image for more info).

There is an additional threaded hole for the EQ6 azimuth stop bolt which protrudes from the field tripod. If you do not intend on using your mount and tripod in the field very often, you can just unscrew the azimuth stop bolt on your tripod, and screw that into the pre-threaded hole on the adapter.

You can also use your own bolt instead of the bolt from your tripod, because it means you don't need to transfer the tripod bolt back and forth between your pier and mount, for faster setup/takedown time. Basically that means rooting around in that old jar of bolts you keep in the garage, and finding an M8 one which will fit. Do not be concerned about the mount's Azimuth adjustment pressing against the side of bolt threads, as this will not affect your mount performance - remember that you don't need much pressure to fine-adjust your mount's Azimuth for polar alignment anyway.
