The Geoptik Universal Saddle Plate requires a "puck" to connect to your EQ6 mount. This package consists of the Geoptik universal saddle plate and a puck.
(The USP itself is drilled to fit the Takahashi m8 35mm hole spacing found on several alt azimuth mounts, and if fits the Losmandy G11 mounts directly too).
The puck bolts to the USP, giving you a firm
foundation for mounting your imaging equipment securely to your EQ6. It's better than the factory clamp because it grips the dovetail bar or
plate more firmly, and it doesn't mar your dovetail plate or bar, having
a flat edged clamping surface. Furthermore, you can use either
Vixen/Synta/Skywatcher format dovetail bars or the popular Losmandy
format dovetail plates without changing the Universal Saddle Plate.
Finally, the USP gives a more rigid connection between telescope and mount, with a lower centre of gravity, keeping your scope closer to the mount. This results in better results for imaging and visual observing and a safer, quicker setup and takedown procedure.
Synta changed the EQ6 mount design in September 2008, so we've made two types of EQ6 puck adapters.
Choosing the correct puck adpater for your mount is easy.
Simply loosen the 3 hex screws shown opposite and remove the factory dovetail clamp from your mount. Examine the factory part, and you'll see it has either straight edges or a conical depression around the middle:
Pre September 2008 EQ6 mounts require the "straight edged" puck, model 30A057F
Post September 2008 EQ6 mounts have the conical depression and require the model 30A057N (N for new) Puck.
NOTE before you order: Choose your puck type in the Options menu below, then choose your colour option. If you choose the blue colour option below to match Altair TMS accessories your Puck will also be matching blue.
