The Bahtinov mask allows digital astrophotographers and visual observers to get razor sharp focus in seconds!

 

Due to it's well thought out mounting feature. The Kendrick Bahtinov Mask is probably the easiest-to-use product on the market for achieving tight focus for visual use and for digital astrophotographers, regardless of whether you use a DSLR or CCD camera. The Bahtinov grating is laser-cut and is extremely precise and regular - more so than a mechanically cut mask. Additionally, the mask is extremely light and tough.

The masks have a series of slots that create a unique diffraction pattern that can be used to quickly bring your telescope to focus with an absolute minimum of fuss.

 

Kendrick masks are unique in that they come with three inwards and outwards adjustable rubber bumpers. The bumpers slide back and forth in slots. This allows the Kendrick mask to fit to a wide variety of tube diameters. Simply move the bumper to the desired location on the slot to ensure that the mask is properly centered over your optic, then focus.

 

The graphic below describes the star image you'll see on either side of focus. The difference in focuser position between the four pictures below is very small - a few tenths of a mm - as this method of focussing is extremely precise. The Bahtinov focussing method is very fast and incredibly sensitive which translates into less time hunting for optimum focus, and more time imaging. There is no more need to guess when you are focused during times of poor to moderate seeing. Simply put the mask, and the status of your focus will become immediately obvious.
