Altair TMS Guide Scope Rings 120mm & 150mm
Each pair of Altair TMS guidescope rings are made from light, yet strong aluminium - rigid enough to hold heavier optical tubes, including triplet APOs without damage.

customer review of the Altair TMS Guide Scope Rings
(opens new window).
The Altair Guide Scope Rings are unique because they can be mounted on the top or bottom of Altair Losmandy or Vixen bars
via two M6 bolts on each ring to stop them twisting
like other makes with single bolts.
All Altair TMS Losmandy plates or Vixen bars have this two-hole pattern and you can adjust the separation of the rings by choosing different holes along the length of the plate.
GSR rings have flattened edges for good contact with the bar or plate they're fastened to and are far more rigid than any other guidescope rings we have seen to date.
The GSR benefits from easy-grip hard anodised knobs, custom-machined for a positive grip (we tested several iterations).
The Altair TMS uses
all stainless steel
M6 threads (unlike cheap chromed, carbon black, or zinc plated threads which corrode after a few months as the coating flakes away).
Each thread has no-scratch end caps. Unlike other brands with hard nylon inserts, this gives a more forgiving contact with the optical tube, preventing paint chips and scratches common with other makes. They are much better than the tiny nylon thread-tip inserts commonly used on cheap guide scope rings, which often have sharp edges, and can easily scratch the paint on your telescope during setup. They also give a more positive grip, due to a larger surface area.
The GSR ooks great in hard anodised "Altair Blue" to match the rest of the TMS range.
No sharp edges or poor machining here. Each part is
hand polished
before anodising to remove burs and give a smooth finish. What's more, we haven't compromised on quality. Function dictates form, not the other way round.
TMS is readily available and made in the UK at our local machine shop on HAAS 4 axis CNC milling machines, which means we have complete control over quality.
About the Altair Telescope Mounting System:
Many different combinations are possible using the TMS. In the example below, an 8" F4 Imaging Newtonian telescope is carried next to a 102mm refractor which has a guidescope piggbacked on top. Note that EQ6 mounts cannot carry a load like this - this is a demo to show the flexibility of the TMS. The foundation of the setup is the EQ6 Puck which is bolted to the heavy duty Universal Saddle Plate or USP. This supports a 350mm Losmandy Dovetail Plate, which can be moved from side-to-side to achieve balance. The 8" F4 Imaging Newtonian telescope is carried on a 250mm Vixen Dovetail Bar which is held in a Small
Vixen Dovetail Clamp (SVDC)
, which is in turn bolted directly to one end of the Losmandy plate. All Altair TMS clamps can be bolted to the ends of all Losmandy plates and the VDC can be bolted to each side of the Vixen bars too. On the opposite side, a smaller 180mm Losmandy Dovetail Plate is used to mount an Altair 102mm EDT refractor, which in turn has the 120mm Guide Scope Rings on top to carry a 70mm ED scope. The guidescope rings fit any Altair TMS Vixen Bar or Losmandy Plate and are fastened with two M6 bolts to prevent twisting, unlike cheaper products using only one hole. Each guidescope ring has a flat lower edge for better contact with the plate or bar and hence greater rigidity.
Please choose either 120mm or 150mm internal diameter guide scope rings from the options list below:
