The Starwave 110 ED delivers slightly higher resolution and more light grasp than the 102mm ED for a small increase in weight and size. Deep sky and planetary images show slightly increased brightness and image scale, letting you discern slightly more subtle details at the eyepiece. Colour correction is better in the red Hydrogen Alpha regions of the spectrum than in the blue regions, and this is a great galaxy-imaging scope. We classify this telescope as a "Semi-APO" and it significantly outperforms an achromat refractor of equivalent focal length at an incredible price. With a Contrast Booster filter to remove residual chromatic aberration, it will compare to an APO costing several times the price on the moon and planets.

The additional aperture of the 110mm ED design makes this a suitable option for those who want slightly more performance over a 4" refractor, but who still want a relatively portable telescope which won't over-tax their mount.

The Starwave 110ED is still quite portable for field use. The focuser features the same robust design as the ED102 version, and an optional dedicated 0.8x reducer/flattener as well as the slightly larger aperture, give this telescope improved field performance over a larger area, making astro imaging with larger CCD chips and DSLR camera even easier. When using the flattener, the focal ratio changes from F7 to F5.6 (choose the flattener option in the drop-down menu below). A Contrast Booster filter is recommeded for high power observation of bright objects such as the moon and planets.

Starwave ED110 Features:
  • 110mm F7 Optics from Ohara Japan (770mm focal length, FPL-51 ED element)
  • Highest practical magnification 220x, light grasp 247x human eye, compared to 212x for the SW102ED
  • 89% more light grasp than the Starwave 80mm ED
  • 65cm length, approx. weight 6.8kg
  • 1:10 ratio dual speed focuser with direct fit for optional field flattener
  • 2" to 1.25" eyepiece adapter
  • Tube rings with standard M6 30mm hole pattern (holes correspond top and bottom, enabling other telescopes to be mounted piggyback).
  • Standard Vixen-format dovetail bar
  • Protective case with foam padding
  • Product code SWED110R

What is Starwave? Starwave Telescopes TM is a new brand, created by a manufacturer who already produce a wide range of high performance ED refractor telescopes, offering high contrast and good colour correction for visual observing and astro imaging. Starwave mechanical and optical designs are in use in a variety of high end telescope brands worldwide, offering a very good price vs. performance ratio. Each Starwave telescope has a unique serial number on the lens cell, which is the guarantee of quality worksmanship.

My first good quality telescope and I've been viewing Jupiter the last few days (when weather allows me), very quick delivery and very well built. Decided to go for the 110mm instead of the 102mm for a bit more light gathering and magnification. It works OK on my EQ5 mount but I need a larger mount for imaging like the HEQ5 or larger. I have also bought the plano flattener and adapter for Nikon D700. Very solid quality and better optics compared to my 150mm Newton dob and I can track the view with the motor drives. Fred

Got the Starwave 110 and it's a good all-round choice for planets and general observing. I preferred to get the larger AA TMS 250 black Losmandy type dovetail plate to replace the Vixen one it ships with so I can attach it to my CGEM. The focuser was slightly stiff in rotation so I called A-A and they told me to put a drop of 3-in-1 oil into each of the holes where the grub screws go then replace and tighten them up slightly and evenly, now rotation is very nice and smoother than when it arrived. Good quality for the money in my view. Jim
