Filter wheels & accessories
Filter wheels allow you to change filters automatically during an astro imaging session and are used with monochrome CCD cameras. For example, you can take composite Red Green Blue exposures using an RGB filter set, or use various special narrowband filters to eliminate light pollution. The filters are placed inside the filter wheel in a carousel, protecting them from dust, and keeping them aligned. Filter wheels are controlled (and powered) by your computer via a USB cable. Various astro imaging software packages sense your filter wheel position, and allow you to control it, cycling through the filters as needed. Most of these processes are automatic so you can sit back and relax while the filter wheel, camera and computer all do their thing. In fact, filter wheels are easier to use, cheaper, and of higher quality than ever before, so you really don't need to be an expert to use them.
