M48 2" Extension Spacer Set (6x units with Variable & DSLR)
The M48 2" OD spacer kit consists of 6x elements
4x M48 2" OD Extension Spacers in 5mm, 10mm, 20mm and 30mm lengths, which can be stacked together in various combinations.
1x Variable M48 Locking Ring which can be used with any of these spacers to fine-tune length from 1-4mm or 1-5mm depending on the spacer it's connected with.
1x M48 to DSLR camera adapter, which can be used with any of the spacers or to connect directly to the M48 Variable Locking Ring.
This system can be used in various combinations to achieve just about any spacing.
The M48 Variable Locking Ring can be used to fine-tune spacing to fractions of a millimetre.
The M48 to DSLR Camera adapter lets you attach a Canon or Nikon DSLR camera directly to the Altair Astro M48 Adapters / Spacer system, as well as the Altair Astro PlanoStar TM and other field flatteners or reducers with an M48 male rear thread (see associated products).
Why buy this product? The M48 x 0.75 thread is also referred to as "Large Aperture T-Thread" because it's 6mm wider than the smaller 42mm T-Thread. This reduces the chance of "Vignetting" or light "cut-off" at the edges of the image-frame. What's more, these DSLR adapters can be used in conjunction with an M48 30mm spacer (available separately) to form a 2" Pushfit-to-DSLR-adapter, but with a wider aperture than the older T-Thread format. With a 30mm M48 spacer screwed into the base, they can be used in most focusers, diagonals and any 2" push-fit telescope focuser for the widest compatibility.
For example, you can attach an Altair Astro Canon or Nikon DSLR camera adapter directly to the Altair Astro M48 2" Adapter / Spacer system. Simply screw the 30mm spacer directly into your M48 DLSR adapter, and you can use the protruding 2" OD barrel with telescopes accepting the standard 2" pushfit accessory system.
Several filter wheels and CCD cameras have M48 threads, plus this is the standard thread used on 2" filters (M48x0.75mm pitch).
Altair PlanoStar TM reducers and flatteners also use the M48 thread system.
Why M48 thread instead of M42 T-Thread? The M48 x 0.75 thread is also referred to as "Large Aperture T-Thread" because it's 6mm wider than the smaller 42mm T-Thread. This reduces the chance of "Vignetting" or light "cut-off" at the edges of the image-frame. If you still need a T-Thread end-adapter you can simply attach the Altair Astro M48-M42 T-Thread adapter.
