The M48 to DSLR Camera adapter lets you attach a Canon or Nikon DSLR camera directly to the Altair Astro M48 Adapters / Spacer system, as well as the Altair Astro PlanoStar TM and other field flatteners or reducers with an M48 male rear thread (see associated products).
Why buy this product? The M48 x 0.75 thread is also referred to as "Large Aperture T-Thread" because it's 6mm wider than the smaller 42mm T-Thread. This reduces the chance of "Vignetting" or light "cut-off" at the edges of the image-frame. What's more, these DSLR adapters can be used in conjunction with an M48 30mm spacer (available separately) to form a 2" Pushfit-to-DSLR-adapter, but with a wider aperture than the older T-Thread format. With a 30mm M48 spacer screwed into the base, they can be used in most focusers, diagonals and any 2" push-fit telescope focuser for the widest compatibility.
We have calculated the backfocus distance of the DLSR adapters and incorporated this into our PlanoStar TM field flattener spacing diagrams making it easier for customers to use our field flattener optics for astro imaging.
