Kelling Heath Starparty is the most popular outdoor astronomy event in the UK and the largest stargazing event in Europe. Twice a year in Spring and Autumn, hundreds of visual astronomers and astro-imaging enthusiasts gather each year under dark North Norfolk skies. The camping facilities, as well as restaurant and pub facilities are excellent, and all the pitches have electricity points.
The Kelling Heath Starparty lasts for about two weeks, and the dates are usually in March/April and one in September, arranged to avoid the full moon, so that the skies are always dark enough to see thousands of stars and deep sky objects. Astronomy enthusiasts often arrive before the event, and stay for a while afterwards too.
The Starparty features trade stands (Altair Astro are always there being close to the shop in Aylsham), imaging workshops and talks for beginner astronomers, as well as free telescope tours arranged by astronomy societies. The main trading day is on the last Saturday of the event.
The surrounding North Norfolk countryside is well worth a visit too and there is plenty to do such as cycling, walking, visiting the beach and seaside villages. You can even ride a steam train along the coast from Kelling Heath.
This is the place to visit if you want to check out all the latest astro equipment, try out telescopes under the night sky, and meet friendly astronomers of all ages and interests. We've been at the event since it began, and the event has become more rewarding and interesting every year, with plenty of new friendly faces appearing on the scene.
